In 2025 the club once again ran its popular
Species Hunt, with prizes up for grabs across the Teams, Seniors, and
Juniors categories. Prizes Teams

Six teams were vying for bragging rights, the
top prize, and the trophy. In the Seniors section, seventeen members
competed for the title of Top Senior, while twenty-six juniors took
part. New for this year was a prize for the top 10-year-old and under,
generously donated by the club’s Vice President, Richard “Tiny” Daw. Across all competitors,
an impressive 72 different species were entered from a total of 520 fish
caught. Team Results For the second year
running, the winning team was Team Dragonettes (Jon Trevett & Emma
Drysdale). Jon caught 56 different species and Emma added 44, giving
them a combined total of 61 different species — an outstanding
achievement.
Team Senior Service kindly donated their prize
to the club’s Junior Section. Seniors Once again, Jon Trevett
topped the Seniors table with 56 different species, finishing 11 species
ahead of second-placed Keith Woods and 12 ahead of third-placed Emma
Drysdale. Juniors In the Junior Section,
Aaron Chambers claimed victory for the third year running with 34
different species.
Ben Stokes also won the
Top 10 Years & Under prize. Well done to everyone

Result 2024 Once again the club ran their year long
species hunt in 2024, Prizes up for grabs this year were; Top Senior £50 cash & £50 Angling Centre West Bay sponsored by The Angling Centre Top Junior
£50 Cash & £50 Angling Centre West Bay sponsored by The Angling Centre This year we had ten teams vying for the team trophy & prizes. Nineteen seniors trying to win the senior prizes and twenty one juniors after the junior prizes. in all we had 682 fish entered by the competitors with a total of 81 different species of fish caught, all the fish were returned back to the water alive.
The winning team was Team Dragonettes (Jon Trevett & Emma
Drysdale), for 2024 Jon had decided to form a new team with his partner
Emma, and what a great choice it was with Jon recording 62 different
species and Emma catching 50 different species which gave the team a
grand total of 68 different species between them both a great total.
This was 14 more species than the winning team from 2023. Second placed
team is Team Rod Squad (Dean Francis & Becky Lee). Third in the teams
was Team Senior Service (Keith Woods & Rod Barr). In the seniors Jon Trevett came out victorious with 62 different species of fish a great score for the year, this was 10 more species than 2nd placed Becky Lee and 12 more species than 3rd placed Emma Drysdale and was 16 more species than the 2023 winner. In the Junior Section the winner for the second year running was Aaron Chambers with a total of 42 different species which was 9 more species than the previous year. The top 12 year and under junior for 2024 is Ben Stokes with 27 different species, this also placed him 2nd overall in the junior competition. Well done to all who entered. The 2023 Species Hunt Trophy competition ran throughout the year
and had three trophies up for grabs, Senior Trophy, Junior Trophy & Team
Trophy the Team Trophy comes with a £50 prize as well.
Thanks
to the generosity of Ben Carter & Richard Daw the Junior & Senior
winners will each receive a £50 Angling Centre Voucher. Thirty-one
seniors & thirty-six junior club members entered the competition in
2023. There were 18 teams vying for the team trophy this year.
The winner in the junior trophy was Aaron Chambers who caught 33
different species, 2nd was
Tim Pearce with 25 Species and 3rd
was Lidy Carter with 20 species.
In the senior section with just nine days to go in the
competition the top three were tied, Ollie Mears, Keith Woods & Dean
Francis on 45 species each. Even though the weather wasn’t great two of
the top three, Keith Woods & Dean Francis managed to get out in the last
few days of the competition to try and add to their tally, Keith caught
a Gilthead Bream but alas he already had this species. Dean went to West
Bay and managed to catch a Silver Eel which was added to his count. The
senior winner was Dean Francis with 46 species, Joint 2nd
Keith Woods & Ollie Mears.

In all over the year over 800 fish were entered in the
competition (Except for fish kept for eating or bait they were all
released alive). with a total of 60 different species caught.

SPECIES HUNT TROPHY RULES
2024
Open to Members only
There are two trophies one each for top Junior and top Senior and a £50
& £50 Voucher

1. You
must adhere to club rules (see Members Handbook Section 3.00) with the exception
of those listed below
2. You
may fish anywhere within the United Kingdom, on boat or shore, in or out of
competition.
3. Members
must nominate their team member for the year by contacting the Secretary with
names before sending in entries for acceptance, no fish caught before the team
was formed are allowed to be entered. Once a team is nominated it can only be
disbanded by agreement of both team members in writing to the Secretary.
4. Fish
do not need to be of minimum size to enter as you must return undersized fish
alive. You also do not need a witness, but you must photograph fish with your
Species Hunt ID beside it. (For juniors only: For preference any fish caught as
part of the species hunt will be photographed with card in shot and submitted in
the normal way as per the adults. If this does not happen or the member does not
yet have a card then any fish caught in a junior match will be photographed
alongside a junior species hunt card that will be available on the vehicles
parked on the pier. Photos will be retained by the junior secretary for a week
to clarify a species if a doubt is raised. This way the match card can be taken
as read and species added to junior’s tallies with photos kept as backup. If a
fish is caught outside of a match a photo of the junior holding the fish will be
accepted as long as the species is clearly identifiable, the preference is still

No photos of blood covered fish allowed.
5. Photographs
must be clear enough for the fishes species to be identified, if the photograph
is not good enough for the species to be identified the fish will be disallowed.
6. Any
fish being entered must be entered no later that 5 days from the end of the
month they are caught in.
7. The
team prize of £50 will be decided by; the team who catches the most different
species between them and will be presented at the annual presentation evening.
8. If
there is a tie for any prize it will be split.
