Saturday Juniors East Pier West Bay (Fred Tolley
Four juniors and
one guest signed on to fish the first match of
the year, the Fred Tolley Memorial Trophy.
Low tide was at 11:51am so the competitors
started to fish the competition in very shallow
water, this did not bode well for catching fish.
But with-in the first thirty minutes a fish was
caught, and though not a great many fish were
caught all the entrants managed to catch.
Even a couple of legal fish were caught both
three bearded rocklings. All the fish caught by
the juniors are weighed in then returned alive
to the water, in the competition legal sized
fish always take precedence over non-legal, that
is why a junior with a legal weight that may be
less than a junior with a greater non-legal will
be placed in a higher position. (to be legal a
fish must be equal or greater length than the
minimum size laid down by the Angling Trust).
Last year’s winner Aaron Chambers had high hopes
of regaining the trophy but Robbie Hall had
other ideas, Robbie had a great days fishing not
only catching the most fish, ten in all, but
also the heaviest single fish.
Species caught were; shanny, wrasse & rockling.
